(Lake Superior from our hotel at Grand Marais)
We had already done two short walks before getting to Grand Marais, but we were not done.
First my wife and I walked out to the Coast Guard station, that round trip is just under a half mile.
This walk is mostly sidewalk. For some reason there is about a half a block between where the sidewalk ends and the parking lot begins. But the parking lot is at the end of the street and any cars are going slow.
Not sure if we will make it out to the lighthouse this year. We have no younger kids with us that want to walk out there and there are no middle aged kids with to fish us out of the lake if we fall in ;)
Our second 'walk' was to food.
First we walked to the Gun Flint. There was immediate seating on the roof so we got some 'steps' in. It is a bar with bar food but when we got there at 5 PM they were already out of their pulled pork and their meatball sandwiches. So we all at sloppy joes. My wife was hungry and knew anywhere else there would be a line.
By the time we were done eating, the grandchildren were hungry so we walked to Voyageur's where they have more food, a larger outdoor seating and it is at ground level.
We ordered a bunch of app's to all share, and we ate them all.
That 2nd walk was over a half mile if we had walked direct with no side stops. It normally would be all on paved ground with having to cross a few side streets and Hwy 61 without a stop light (the way we walked.) But this year they are working on Hwy 61 so it is closed. Instead of dodging traffic we were dodging construction equipment. And the hwy was gravel.
So between all of our short walks we likely walked 3-4 miles today. But I'm guessing the food more than offset that.
