2023 03 26 - Mystery Cave State Park - Preston MN

The building and cave were both closed this time if year but the park area was open.

It may be hard to see in this picture, but about in the center is the bridge to the other side of the river and then on the left is the door to the cave. That is the only path at this park so we did not get our mile walk in while we were here.


Not sure why the put the visitors center and parking lot on this side of the river. There seems to be room on the other side within the park.


There are a few signs that explain this area. There used to be a lake upstream but that was drained years ago.

Under the tree branch on the left is the door to the cave. So we have no idea how big the cave area is. According to the signs, the water in the river before the cave is warm water while the water on this side of the cave is cold water.


The signs also indicate that some of this water goes into the cave at such a rate that during dry weather, the creek on this side of the cave is dry.
