Picture: The trail into the setting sun.

After a day of work driving, we had enough time to get to the park, walk and get to the hotel before dark.

This park has a few area's to walk. We usually park near the picnic area on the big island. The Blazing Star state trail also runs into the park from Albert Lea. Blazing Star is about six miles and is paved, it starts in Albert Lea and dead ends in the park.

With very little under brush, it was sometimes a guess as to where the trail was. But here the trail is deep (?) enough that even with the leaves we could usually follow it.

The trail along the shore took us about 45 minutes. By then it was close enough to dark that we did not follow the shoreline once we got back to the road. And that part of the trail is blocked off but the trail around the block is well worn.

We saw deer a couple of places. The ones posted below and later we saw more just as I was putting my camera up to take the sunset picture. It would have made a good picture with the deer in front of the sunset.

We also saw an eagle that was low over the water and likely closer than we were to the deer.

Saw one camper in the campground, the person said they like this time of year. Very few other campers. (and no bugs)

All the paths at this park are close to flat, I would guess the elevation is less than 10 feet difference anywhere.

State park so there is a fee. Not sure about parking in Albert Lea and riding/walking that trail.

Picture: Two of the deer, one on the right and the one of left has horns and is a little further away. There were a couple of more that didn't make it into the pictures.
