This is the park entrance. Behind the sign you can see the new grade for the paved bicycle trail.

We did not walk the paved trail. It is about a 12 mile trail. About half of that is a loop around or near the state park. The other half is an out and back trail into the town of Battle Lake. There is one trail head/parking/toilets in the state park and two outside of the state park.

We parked in the park near the lodge and walked from there. The trail we walked was mostly grass and had been mowed. The only unusual wildlife we saw was a family of geese. They were walking on the trail and the little ones were just days old.

We saw the geese early enough that we started making extra noise. They were near the woods when we saw them and took our trail into the woods. They walked/ran about a block before the path turned and they headed into the woods. One of the little ones kept running off the path so the rest would have to wait for it to come back.

One of the adults was leading and the other bringing up the rear. We were glad they decided to run instead of go into attack mode. We slowed a little and they moved pretty fast.

This whole path was flat, not likely more than three feet from highest to lowest point.

After yesterday, my wife's leg held up OK while we were walking. We may have stopped once or twice for a few seconds because of it but she did OK at our usual pace. But once we were done at the park she only got out of the car a couple of times and then only walked a few feet at a time.

This is a State Park so there is a fee. This location is self service, no staff on site. The drive was paved but in places it is only one lane wide, but still two way traffic. Not sure if that is forever or just while they are working on the bike trail.
