2025 08 18 - Mall, Cherry Vale Mall, Rockford IL

Two story mall.

NOTE: THIS IS BEING WRITTEN UP SIX MONTHS LATER.

We had dropped one RV in Rockford first thing this AM. No other work lined up so we stopped where and went for a walk.

I don't see any people in the picture. The mall opened at 10 AM and it was just a little after that on a weekday when the picture was taken.

The mall is listed as having 140 stores. I don't remember it being a ghost mall but not sure the percentage of vacancy. The mall still has a Penny's and Macy's as anchor's. Those two are across from each other on the sides of the mall. Of the two end anchor spots, one is an amusement area and the other is empty.

Food court. To me, the best place for a food court is on ground level with it's own exit to the parking to. Like Fargo and Iowa City. This mall has a nice food court, but it is on the lower level, not the ground level, so no parking lot entrance.

They do have a Charley's so we have stopped here just for food before ... then I found there was a Charley's closer to the hotel in town so now I only stop here when I also want a malt.

The food court is/was full. There is an open area next to the escalator but I don't know if that was meant to be a store.
